Qigong, is an outstanding cultural legacy of ancient China. It is also an important part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Qigong is a prophylactic method which is unique to China. The dim of Qigong exercise is preventing and curing diseases, strengthening the constitution, avoiding premature aging, and prolonging life. The main characteristics of Qigong include the training of Essential Qi in the human body, which integrates mental activity with body postures and respiration. Therefore, Qigong has been highly regarded as an important method of treating diseases and extending life.

Historically, Qigong has always been widely used in China for medical purposes. It is also applied in Taoist and Buddhist physical exercises. The methods include Jinggong (Quiescent Exercise).The types of movements include those emphasizing gentle force, strong force, internal exercise, external exercise, treatment of diseases and prophylaxis.

In the fields of medical treatment and prophylaxis, Qigong is different from other physical treatment therapies, and the term Qigong typifies this uniqueness. Qi refers to the body’s physiological functions. Qigong experts call it Internal Qi, which generates life. Gong refers to practicing skill. They refers, Qigong is a kind of self-training method by which the practitioner uses the initiative to train the body and mind.
